Fishing Report

Truckee River

In California the river is in really good shape from Lake Tahoe to the Boca Bridge. Flows are 232 CFS in Truckee. It is still a little early in the year for any hatches but the nymph fishing has been really good. From the Boca Bridge to the state line the flows are still a little high at 600 to 750 CFS. The fishing has been good but be careful wading out too deep. Try green drake nymphs with a smaller dropper such as a caddis, little yellow stone, or baetis. In Nevada the flows are a little high but the bugs are just starting to hatch, especially east of town. Nymphing with green drakes, golden stones, little yellow stones and bottom rollers all have been working. The fish are near the banks and in seams and slower water. Flows in Nevada are between 500 and 600 CFS. Go here for stream flows

Little Truckee River

Flows are 54 CFS. They are starting to get a little low. With increased pressure, the Little Truckee has been tough to say the least. More experienced anglers are still catching fish but it is turning into a science project. Nymphing with small flies in sizes 18 and 20 are doing the best. Also, try ants, PMD patterns and aquatic worms. A stealthy approach is a must with the lower flows. Go here for stream flows

East Walker River

Flows are up to 202 CFS. Very fishable flows crossing the river is getting tough. Nymphing with golden stones in sizes 8-12 with a small caddis dropper has been very effective. Keep an eye on the flows. The best time to go is when the flows remain constant for a few days. go here for stream flows

East Carson River

Flows are 1120 CFS. Wait until the flows come down to under 700 CFS before going to the East Carson. Go here for stream flows

Pyramid Lake

The fishing has remained really good. It is getting tougher to find the fish but when you find them 20 to 30 fish days are still happening. The North end of the Lake has had some great reports. Nymphing and pulling streamers both have been catching fish. The Lake closes at the end of June.

Davis Lake

Fly fishing here is starting to get really good as well. It is still a little early for the damsels to hatch but fish are eating nymphs in 4 to 10 feet of water. Fish with an intermediate line, two damsel nymphs and strip really slow for best results. The best time to go is in the morning to early afternoon. There are also good numbers of callibaetis and blood midges hatching.

Frenchman's Lake

Fly fishing has been decent at Frenchman's. Most anglers are fishing buggers and leaches in 6 to 12 feet of water with a either an intermediate or type two sinking line. Snail patterns, damsels, and callibaetis are also worth a try.
