Let me first start off by saying it is worth the cost of admission and Jay is a great host, I hope to go back in a year or two. The weather was alot cooler than I expected, it stayed in the low 90's the whole time. There was almost always some wind to deal with, some days were worst than others. But all in all the weather was very nice, but I do wish it would have been warmer to help with the fishing. My first day started off like what you would hope for, my first cast got me my first rooster, it was a little one, but it was my first and I could have not been happier. The fishing was off and on the whole trip, sometimes it was good and other times it was real slow. But that is fishing. The water clarity was just unbelievable, it was if you were looking into a huge aquarium no matter where you were. The sea life I saw was incredible, there is nothing like seeing a big school of toro's swimming all around ranging from 15 - 30 lbs. I am still amazed at how many fish I saw in the water, they were everywhere. And once my captain "Johnny" started throwing sardinas into the water and the fish starting going into a frenzy it was so exciting to watch, but nothing compares to throwing your fly into all that activity. My biggest fish were a pair of jack cravells "toro's" that weighted in at about 22 and 28 pounds. When they hit the fly there was no guessing that you were in for a good time. I also got a couple roosters with the biggest going about 8 lbs., plenty of barracudas to be had as well as ladyfish. Trumpet fish were everywhere, they were so many that I started to really not like them, even as beautiful as their colors were. And speaking of colors, wow, everything was beautiful and bright as can be. The pargo that I caught was so bright yellow that it was almost blinding. My fishing partner was John from Wisconsin and we had a great time out on the water, on Thursday we caught a nice size pargo that feed the both of us as well as Steve and Joan, and boy did that fish taste great.

Well enough of my talking, now for the pictures.

Right on!

Its fun to see the backdrop in your photos and know EXACTLY that spot! Those Jacks are real ballbreakers arent they? The expression on your face with the second one says it all. LOL. Catching them off the beach is insanely fun.

My only question is, Who is Bills furry friend in the first picture??

That "furry" friend is my "dead cat"... Or better known as a wind reducer on a boom mic. That's what I was using to record the music the night of the modeling show. I might post a small preview of the modeling show they had one night. I know Scott took quite a few photo's.

The temperatures today are suppose to be in the low 100's. Hopefully this will turn on the fish and everyone comes back with sore arms. I'll be going back out in the morning with the group.

Scott, those were some great photo's.

Great pics. I fished with Scott those 5 days. For a Fly Fisher of only 3+ years, and on his first saltwater trip he was awesome. You CA guys know how to train 'em.

My wife, Joan, with the Grande Sangria in Scott's post, really enjoyed her first Bluewater trip. I didn't get any new species so here are her pics. Thanks to Jay and the group for their support and a great time. Until next year!

Joan those are excellent catches especially the Amberjack. That's quite a special prize for flyrodders. "Roosta"...whateva...callem' what you want, you did all the work! Oh yes -- congrats to Steve too.

Scott well done on your first BAJA adventure. I hope you have many more. Lifetime memories for sure.

Hey Boca Grande, I see you also had a terrific time. You finally made it down and I wasn't there to share in the madness??????? I guess you'll have to go again so we can share a boat for a day (I don't think the Pangero could handle both of us for more than one day!!!!).
Cheers, Ken

It was definitely a great group of people. I enjoyed every day with them and hope they enjoyed playing in my backyard

Now for today's report. The fishing or I should say the catching was on today. According to the group, flat waters in the morning then the noon breeze started to kick in, as usual.
Darian boated a dorado around 40lbs on the trip to the beach. Sounds like the dorado are in close this year due to the fact the buoys are no longer out in the deeper waters. Another boat had a dorado on and to the boat when the partner decided to take pictures. A GRANDE dorado swam up and wanted to play.... Picture or Cast, Picture of Cast, well you know what I would of done. Sounds like Renee caught some amber jacks in the 20# class. Some roosters were also boated

Going out tomorrow. the throat feels better, it should - after drinking around a gallon of straight limon juice and a quart of honey, it's starting to recover. I went and bought some Tylonal this morning

A report to follow after fishing

Oh yeah, forgot to add this message. It's a pleasure to watch people especially the gals cast a line.
When I talked to Steve and Joan at the Pleasanton show, this is when she decided to go along with Steve on the trip. She mentioned that she was signed up for casting lesson. I think she mentioned that she has taken lessons from Kathy Beck, Lori Ann Murphy and I believe one other gal. So when I jumped in their boat the first day and watched Joan as she peeled off the line, Efren and I sort of smiled at each other. After watching Joan on her first cast, I knew right a way that she wouldn't to any lessons from me. She threw that line better than me and Efren said the same thing. Watching a 400+ grain line in tight loops was fantastic. I think the only thing that surprised her was how fast the roosters move. Here, there and everywhere.
Renee is the same way. Casting is not a problem for her, either. It shows who practices casting prior to a trip.

Good going Gals
