Hit the American river yesterday evening and we managed to pick up a few shad. I took my 10 year old nephew out for our first fishing outing together. He told me on the way there that he had never caught a fish. I said he might catch a fish today. Well, he caught the most fish in the boat. 4 to be exact. Nice size fish too. He caught two on a spin rod and 2 on a fly rod. I asked him which rod he like fishing with better and he said fly rod. I am a proud uncle.

Now if you fish for shad, you know these are one of the hardest fighting fish. Two of the fish my nephew caught were 20 inches. I asked him what it felt like to caught a shad and these were his words: "It is like playing tug-o-war with 18 pit bulls" He pretty much hit it on the head.

In celebration of his first fish he gave the shad a nice big kiss on the lips. Check out the shad's expression.
