I was up in the Bay Area visiting family the last few days.
Ended up going out Friday and Saturday for morning sessions with my Dad.
Definitely fun as we haven't fished together since the E. Sierra quite a few years ago.
I grew up spending a ton of time in the E Sierra with him fishing for trout on spin rods, dead drifting salmon eggs and throwing super dupers from the age of 3.

I ended up picking up a spinner rod and we tried swim baits, carolina rigged grubs and flies, and some metal.
Teaching Dad in hour sessions to throw leadcore with no waders was not sounding eventful.
Lots of great buckets and troughs up here, mole crabs everywhere (pacific and spiny), but no perch for the life of us.
Actually hooked four mole crabs on the retrieve with the switch fly rod with a clouser of all things (hook point up).
The structure must have been loaded.

Couldn't get Dad out for grey light so we hit the beach at a decent hour for an hour or so the first day and managed about 20 mins due to the wind on Saturday.
Ended up with one schoolie stripe on the 6wt fly rod to at least show there is something in the sea down near where we were staying.
Thought I had a nice perch, but it was a mini-me striper.
He hit a sparse chart/white clouser.

Talking to other fisherman, it sounded like the perch bite in the last week was a bit slow.
This structure down south would have been a gimme for perch, but guess it is the colder temps and wind that knocked things down.
Wind was up, water cold, but the surf was not bad.

Good times none the less.
Beautiful wide beaches up here with very little crowds.
Here's a couple pics from Saturday.
