In the new May/June issue is a nice article on the Lower Klamath River by John Shewey.

John describes why many of us prefer to go to the Klamath in September/October to "swing" flies mostly on a floating line for active fresh run Steelhead.

We prefer the lower river from Orleans downstream in September and then we like to move upriver to fish from Orleans to Happy Camp in October.

The lower river is mostly a jet boat deal while the upper/middle river is "road hunting" or drifting for fishing access.

If you need any help planning a fall trip for Steelhead come by the shop or email us.

Bill,
Bruce and I ran up on the Klamath yesterday - did not get on the river until around 11. It was pretty high, running at around 16,000 cfs but nice and clear. There were maybe 6 other boats on the river all targeting springers. Fish and Game was also on the river. We ran up to Blue Creek and fished for a few hours - Bruce hooked one nice small adult steelhead and I hooked a couple of half pounders. We then ran up all the way to Pecwan just checking things out. A bit windy and chilly but great to get out on the river - saw a bald eagle and a number of osprey.
