I was using my Scott 5 wt to catch little schoolies... until I got into a double digit fish... well... thank God my rod (and the fish) survived. Price range $100-$250ish... hopefully.

I use a TFO Professional 7 weight that cost $139 I believe brand new at Kiene's. It is a great rod plus they have a real good customer service and No Questions Asked breakage policy.

That 8 weight VPS listed a week or so ago would be a solid choice.

Not sure if you're interested but I have a 2 pc Zero Gravity 8 wt tip flex. When it first came it out it cost over $600, then Orvis dumped the series and offered the 2 pc for a little over $350. I would be willing to sell it for $225 + shipping. I've only used the rod a handful of times, and it is in great condition. It comes in an Orvis metal tube and has a nice rod sock

Let me know...i can send pics if you're interested

Wish I would have picked up one of the Redington CPS 4 piece 8wts... So far, lots of good reviews on the TFO's; I will check them out for sure.

If price is the concern
than $ for $ the TFO PRO
is the rod to get....
I have sage TCR's, RPLXI's ,Scott's, Dimond Back's and others

Most of the time I am seen casting a TFO PRO.....8wt
they come in 2 ($115)and four($140) pieces
you can also get the four piece 8wt in the breast cancer rod
it's purple and TFO will donate $10 to research.......
I think they are also making an Armed forces rod also in Blue and Gold

this rod has a great flex point for Lead core or HD line fishing......
you don't have to force it to cast 80-100 feet....
I put this rod in the hands of any one I am teaching to cast for stripers..

Load this rod with 30-33 feet of T-11 and a good running line for stripes

put the sage LMB line on it for top water bass

then if you get more into stripes and want to through big 6-8" topwater flies
put the RIO outbound SHORT Cold Water WFF 10 wt on it........(yes 10WT)

The real I use is the Redington REDFLY 7-8-9 ($60)

As for service: snap it in half.....drop it at Kienes.......Maralyn will call you in about a week and a half to two weeks and you can come pick up your brand new rod......
That simple...... please don't ask me how I know this so well.........

The only Draw back to this rod is it dose not come with a rod tube...
but my rods never see the tube....
I bought a pink....... yes pink... breast cancer tube for my wife's rod($25-30)
and her rod has been in it once maybe twice.......

so even if you buy the tube you still have a set up under $250
rod $140
tube $30
Real $60
