This higher flow will bring lots of fish into the Lower American River.

In these higher flows they might just pass up the Log Hole and end up staging further upstream this spring?

Bill,

I have to agree with you. After trying for shad at the Log Hole on Sunday I found the flows are way too high. You can't wade out very far so your back cast with a shooting head would be problematic and you can't get your cast all the way across the river. With a switch rod and a skagiit head I could only get about 1/2 to 2/3 across the river. A long spey rod and 120 ft casts would probably do it but you would need a fast sinking tip like T-14 to get down deep enough. I going to be looking for them further upstream.

As someone that has frequented the Log Hole over the past decade, I've been somewhat disappointed with the increase in trash, dog poop, etc. the past few years. Have I been there on bad days of late or is this now the norm? 10 years ago it was such a nice area to hang out and relax.

I mean the dog poop was all over the nice little grassy area next to the water and really spoiled the ability to sit and relax.

I guess this is another good reason for "higher flows" <grin>

Keep your fingers crossed the flows stay up and consistent right on into June. No yo-yo stuff.
