A few years ago I went on a 4 day remote float trip down the lower 20 miles of this wonderful Steelhead river with Spey Water Guide Service.
This is one of the best trips I have taken for Steelhead. The water is just wonderful to wade and fish. Mostly floating lines in October.

Try to get a trip booked with them this October, Scott O'Donnell, Mike McCune and Ed Ward. You get to go on a professionally run float trip with great food plus get guided and educated in the art of Spey casting/fishing.
They will have you Spey casting in the first morning and by the end of the trip you will be a budding "Spey Commando".

Bill,
That was a great trip!
Bruce and I are trying to book in late Sept/early October - Scott thinks he has two openings and he is just now checking and will get back to us - can't wait to get back there

For anybody that wants to skate flies, the Ronde is a great river. I was able to spend a fair amount of time up there and look forward to going back up. What makes it an even better trip is that there is the snake and clearwater in the area as well.

I heard about that river for many years and then my friend Chris Pasley fished it quit a bit in recent years. He told me about the great top water action too.
The country up there is really spectacular. Lots of animals too.
Rck Jorgensen, John Hogg and I drove from Sacramento. I really enjoyed the ride up through all that high ag and pasture land along the Oregon/Nevada board.

Well Scott just confirmed our two spots on the float at the end of Sept/early October so we are pumped. Scott mentioned he had 2 spots available on a later float and 4 spots open at the lodge in late October.
The lodge water is really wonderful though you do get more folks as it is paralleled by a road much of the way - but there are so many great pieces of water in this upper stretch it just boggles the mind. They break it up into three separate runs with three guides in rafts with two anglers per guide so it is really a great opportunity to fish some wonderful steelhead water as well as fish and learn from three of the best skagit casters out there - Scott, Mike and Ed!!! And Stephanie will make sure you do not lose any weight from burning calories casting all day - a truly remarkable lady who can cook better than most and cast as good as most!
