Went and fished San Diego bay last sunday, only bad part was that the wind came in hard and strong and pretty much blew us off the water by 11. I was able to land 1 fish and missed alot of takes. I caught a new species that I have never seen, I believe it is called a corvina. As you can see it looks more like a snaggletooth. For its size it was a strong fighter.

Bob, who took me out was a spotted sea bass magnet that day, all I could do was set the hook and then try again. I plan on going back in August for a mako trip one day and then fish again with Bob in the bay another day.

Right on Scott. Nice corvina.
Some of the gear guys down there do well with surface plugs at night.
They can get to a pretty nice size in some spots.
It would be cool to see one of those guy blow up on a popper or crease fly.
Its a bummer about the wind. All of us on the coast have been getting hammered pretty hard with it over the last week.
Finally died down briefly yesterday and picked right back up again with the incoming storm.
You should have fun with the Makos in August. Going with Capt. Dave?

More than likely, I heard he is the man. I just need to pick a date so I can reserve a day with him.

Corvina are sure a good looking fish. Kinda like a White Seabass (they must be related).... :cool:

Scott;
nice going on the corvina...I've only seen them in reports and pictures....Newport Bay has some as well, but it is a much smaller fishery than the San Diego Bay fishery. Keep me posted on the next time your down in LA area and maybe we can make another trip out into the bay.
life with the little newborn is good but he is taking up way too much of my fishing time...jk...the little guy is cool and I can't wait to get him on the water...
talk to ya....

I told you that your fishing days were over. But I know your having fun with the little guy. I am hoping to come back down around June or July, I'll let you know.
