Kiene's Fly Shop will have some Switch rod outfits for you to try out and people to help you with casting them too.

Bring your single hand and two handed rods, waders, boots, fishing license, etc.

Meet at the Gristmill access on Lower American River @ 6:00pm this next Thursday evening, April 9th.

We will be talking and demonstration how to swing flies for spring-run Half-pounder Steelhead as well.

"Bill, will you and your team have any of the shorter Skagits to try?"

I'm still looking for the Alpha Skagit for my Meiser 5/6 10' 6" switch and Z7110."

GS - Bruce has been using the RIO 475 short on his 7110 for big stuff and it flies. Probably go down one line size for standard stuff. Hope they make just the heads soon! He cut off their running line and used his

I will have RIO Skagit shorts, airflo compact skagits, and Beulah tonics that are all short skagit lines available for demo. We will also have a variety of switch rods and scandi style lines available to try. Whether you are a beginner or advanced to spey/switch style casting, this will be a good fishing.casting demo for all.

Hopefully Rio will wake up and come out with just the short heads.

What a waste of money to buy the Short Head Line and then cut off Rio's running line.

I will try to make it unless we have a spring Monsoon. Will you be meeting inside the gate or down on the river?

Thanks

We will be meeting down on the river at 6:00.

Also, Rio has redone the running line on the Skagit Shorts and we have a 425 with the new running line to bring down and try out.

See you all there.

Unless it is a big downpour we will be there. We should have a nice turnout.

Jason--
Thanks for putting on the Switch Rod session last evening--we even had overcast skies and just enough rain to make it feel like steelhead season. It's amazing how far rod design has come the last few years. That little 5/6 wt switch rod is sweet.

Hope you do it again!

Sorry, but after having the Dentist and his tech in my mouth for an hour, I wasn't really up to the event.

What are the specifics re Ian's visit this coming Tuesday.

Hopefully, there will be another Switch Rod Clave event sponsored by Kiene's.

Hi GP,

We will have these on a more regular bases.

We will offer to try lots of different lines on people's two handed rods to help them get something dialed in better for them.

Weather was funky but most had on waders and raincoat so no big deal.....

Higher flows (~2,800 cfs) should bring in more spring-run Steelhead, Stripers and Shad now.

I think you will be able to catch Half-pounders into June.

Stripers are from April through October in the river.

Shad are usually May/June.

Hi Bill and Jason,

I wish I could have made it last night. When I got home last night there was a cardboard tube at my front door. It contained a BIIX 7 wt switch rod. I sure would have like to tried out some of those new lines on it.

Thanks for putting that on guys. I got some great pointers, and I'm glad now that I didn't try to dive in straight to fishing with my new setup. Would've been an exercise in futility. As it was, even after personalized help, I still suck! Of course it's all the equipment and not my skillz... (Okay, I'm fooling myself)

I'm hoping a new line will precipitate "the click".

SHig,

It was nice to meet you last night. Keep working on your stroke and remember to keep it slow and smooth. If you ever want to try any lines on that rod feel free to call me at the shop and we can go out and find a few lines that are a perfect fit for your spey rod. Take care.

Shame on me I went to Watt instead of Gritsmill. No wonder I was the only one!!!. I would have loved to play with a redington and the echo. I need a few more toys!. Yeah Bill and Jason, let's have another conclave soon.....let's meet at Watt, so that I will show up at Gritsmill!!
