Hey Striper, first thing to do is to check in with Ted Fay Fly Shop in Dunsmuir. I also highly recommend one of the best places to eat in the whole area is a place called, I think, "The Cornerstone." It is across the street and downhill, on the corner, from the fly shop, maybe a half block away. Absolutely great food!
I'll let the other, more experienced fly fishers on this group give you tips on the other information. From my experience you can't go too far wrong anywhere you choose. Start at Cantera Loop or maybe Box Canyon (Castle Lake Road, take the first left, go to the end and walk down a bit) and work your way down. I wish I had a week to go up there! I love the Upper Sac! Have a great trip!

Yes, Bob and Joe at the Ted Fay Fly Shop can really help you.

My favorite time up there in June, but May should be OK too this summer.

Get out with local guides Bill Carnzzo or Fred Gordon.

Most use a 9' #5 line rod with a floating line for most of that fishing.

Waders and a wading staff are nice up there.

Little Striper:
Shoot me an email and I can forward an Accommodation PDF with local lodging, restaurants and campgrounds for the Upper Sac. The file is a bit too large to attach here :>(
Bill's Kiene's suggestions on Bob & Joe, guides and timing is spot on. If you don't care to be guided or Fred Gordon and Bill Carnazzo are not available, let me know.
I am on the Upper Sac most every week and will do all I can to try and point you in a direction you might most enjoy.

Go to Mossbrae Falls. You will not be disappointed. There is good water to fish all over that place and they falls are pretty spectacular. The stealthier you are the better. I generally nymph, unless I see some action on top. BH Prince, hairs ear, pheasant tail. 14-18 You gotta get the fly down to be successful. If you are interested in a few other spots send me a pm.

Good luck.

Theres about 35 miles of prime water so pick a spot and start fishing.

I would suggest going to Kiene's and pick up the Streamtime (I think?) Upper Sac Fishing Map. It's about 10 bucks and shows most of the access points on the river. It will give you plenty of options.
