Probably my favorite two hander is the Scott 1287 but it stuggles a bit with heavier lines and flies. I have mainly used the RIO 550 skagit which is a great line but perhaps a bit on the light side for heavy winter work.

So I decided to tweak some lines to see what I could come up with. I started with a Skagit 650 head. I cut it back to 23.5' and 582 grains. I tried casting a 12' T-14 tip and relatively heavy fly first with the 550 then with the modified line and there was a pretty significant difference in ease of casting with the modified 650. So I now have a great line for heavier stuff but will still use the 550 for lighter work

What is it in the nature of steelheaders that makes us "Gear Tinkerers?" I've never come across another sub-sect of fly fishers that are as prone to "tweaking" gear. It sure is fun!

Congrats on getting your system tweaked!
