My friend Dave Trimble a guide I fish with in San Diego is featured on the Outdoor Channel next this week…..the Show is Cabelas Ultimate Adventures, the feature is San Diego Shark Fishing. Here’s what Dave told me in a recent email;

The show is only me guiding Dave Robinson, the host of the show. We raised almost 20 big makos in 3 days. It was filmed in the middle of july 2008. Lots of big fish, we destroyed all of the reels they brought, Cabelas brand! There should be some great underwater footage.

Anyhow, I’ve been fishing the Makos with Dave for 3 years….it’s an amazing program….hope you get to watch and see for yourself. Tape it…

I fished with Dave last year and he really is a great guy and guide. Everything you said about him is right on. My buddy and I took one nice mako in the 90# range and even a small blue shark on a 5 Weight that Dave was letting me use to catch bait.(that WAS fun).

Even though we brought our own equipment Dave also provides Tibor Pacifics and ?Sage rods for those who don't have the right gear.

I'll be down there again this coming August and really looking forward to it.

Unfortunately the film editors at Cabelas Adventures did a terrible job...they cut out all the fish coming out of the water, which as you know is the best part. Dave did tell me Cabelas has made all the footage shot (in 3 days fishing) available to Dave. He is putting together a version of the show he can actually use, one will go to fly shops and a I assume they will also be on You Tube....I'll post once they are complete....we're sharking with Dave in July..

Todd I caught the show a couple of nights ago. All I can say is wow. The site of those Makos "sipping" in those flies on the surface , well if that doesnt get you excited..... Great show , I like how the gear choices,flies and setups were quickly covered at the start also . Great show, Oh yeah I checked out the site and the video of that 200+ doing its aerial show..... unreal........... If Im ever down south in San Diego Im on it, Heck I may even make the trip just for the fishin!!!!!!!!!!!! Kevin

Most of the time, once the hook is set, they take off and come out of the water, I'm disappointed the film editors cut most of that out....to fish with Dave you need to make your reservation soon, he does fill up his bookings in July and August, normally the best time for Makos....he also does off-shore trips into Mexican waters, Dorado, Yellow Tail, Blue Fin, Albies, Bonita, last Aug my wife landed 8-9 fish (conventional gear) of the species mentioned above. This year she's gonna get a Mako on the fly. I'm fishing with Dave for 3 days, two with a buddy and one with my wife....Sight casting to these brutes is awesome! Try it....you'll love it!

Dave is a great guide down there and the Mako fishing can be a blast.
They don't all go airborne, but the ones that do can be quite spectacular.
The blues tend to just bulldog you back to the boat.
So many other species to chase down there on the sand, bays, inshore and offshore.
It is quite the aquarium.

I'll be in San Diego bay on Sunday fishing for bass and hopefully some bone's. I would go for sharks but can't afford a guided trip yet. Hopefully next time.

Yep they have them down there. Go to fliflicker.com and check out the message board. Just look for a recent report from San Diego. I hope to post pics on Monday evening.
