how long does fly line last

wondering how long you all keep the same flyline on your rods? been flyfishing for about 13 years, havent changed the line on some of my rods and wondering if its time to be replaced. i guess i am just looking for an excuse for my poor casting this weekend

I would put on a new fly line if yours is over 5 years old unless you are on an extreme budget.

It is the single best thing you can do to improve the performance of your outfit besides getting a casting lesson with Jeff Putnam.

We have customers who put on a new fly line at the beginning of every trout season...........but I have seen line that I know are over 20 years old that still work.
