Went down south over this last weekend and got to fish in Newport Harbor with a fellow fly fisher from fliflicker board. Adam meet me at Balboa around 6 in the morning to show me the harbor and the sea bass that I have been wanting to see. The weather was perfect with a slight breeze but we did have the problem of a very small tide. But I was determined to catch a spotted bass, I had seen pictures but really wanted to see one for myself. Right off the bat Adam lands a nice little spotty, it was nice to see but I wanted to catch my own. After playing around some docks he took me over to an area with lots of eel grass. After a little bit I got my first bite, and to my surprise I get a nice calico bass. Then I was able to get a spotted and to finish the trifecta I got a nice sand bass. What a beautiful day on the water, I had a great time. We both finished the day with about 7 or so fish each. Not bad for a day with less than a foot and a half of tide in 6 hours. I can not wait to go back in April for more bass, this time I will be searching for a halibut or possibly a corbina.

Tried to land one of these but I guess I did not have the right bait.

A view out the harbor, prefect weather, only 85 degrees.
