I'm sure many of you have heard of CSPA. We've been around for 24 years, fighting for California's fisheries. In the past CSPA quietly worked in the background dealing with the State Water Resources Control Board, the Department of Fish and Game, fighting off the water districts in their ever increasing thirst for delta water and protecting California's waterways from pollution. However, the recent expanded assault on our fisheries and waterways has become so aggressive that CSPA has found the need to "go public."

In April of 2008, CSPA went "on-line" with our new website, WWW.Calsport.Org The website features DAILY news on what is occurring regarding California's fisheries and CSPA's efforts to reverse the trend of ever downward spiraling angling opportunities.

Here are the headlines from today, January 6th.

**CSPA files comments on tentative waste discharge for Amador Pine Grove Community Leachfield System, Amador County

**From Dan Bacher of the FishSniffer: Schwarzenegger Gushes about Low Carbon Fuel Standards as He Pushes Canal Without Public Approval or Legislative Consent

**CSPA supports regionalization reclamation, recycling and conservation for wastewater treatment but foresees problems

**From DFG: 2008: Year of Extreme Poachers and Dangerous Encounters

**Come visit the CSPA booth at the rejuvenated San Mateo International Sportsman's Exposition

To see additional news reaching all the way back from April of this year use the More News tab on the left side of the web page.

Some of the major things CSPA is currently involved in:

On December 1st CSPA filed suit against the Department of Water resources for excessive pumping. This suit is the greatest environmental issue since the stopping of hydraulic mining.

In April of this year, CSPA filed as Intervener to ensure California anglers are represented in the suite filed against DFG regarding striped bass by a coalition of Southern California water districts.

CSPA's efforts were a major part of the stopping of the Auburn Dam, which, if built, would have immediately resulted in even more water being shipped to highly toxic farming in selenium laden lands which would have threatened waterfowl and eventually further contaminated the delta.

CSPA has filed suit against the City of Stockton Waste Water Facility, a known chinook salmon smolt killer.

CSPA will file suit on an additional five to seven known polluters if corrections are not made in a reasonable time.

CSPA is monitoring the process of re-licensing on over forty treatment facilities, to ensure they meet all federal and state regulations and are no longer poisoning the state's rivers and streams.

CSPA participated in over a dozen FERC hearings, ensuring that adequate flows of water are set aside for fisheries below dams.

CSPA helped introduce two legislative bills to restore the delta, AB 1806, a bill that passed but was vetoed by the governor, and AB 2502, which may be resurrected in the coming session.

CSPA and TU organized the first Caples Fish rescue in August where over 6,000 adult trout were transferred to Red and Silver Lakes.

CSPA organized the second Caples Fish rescue where another 3,000 adult fish were rescued.

The above are just HIGHLIGHTS of what CSPA accomplished in 2008. Our plans are even bigger for 2009.

We will have a booth at the San Mateo International Sportsman Exhibition where we'll be signing up members, passing out premiums and signing up people to receive our free weekly newsletter. Our booth will be managed by experts on conservation, the FERC process and the Delta Enhancement Stamp funds. Please look up our booth number and come visit us.

In the mean time, visit our website, WWW.Calsport.Org and sign up for our free weekly newsletter.

To sign up for the newsletter just send an e-mail to gneuburger@yahoo.com with the words, "CSPA-Sign Me Up" in the subject line.

By the way, memberships in CSPA start at $30 annually, the best investment you can make in the future of California's fisheries.

Jerry, since you are deep within this group, how does CSPA look at the likes of the Nature Conservancy and Peter Moyle in endorsing the peripheral canal? What are we missing here? Is someone missing the entire story-- me, or the others?
