L.B.Y...old net?

An old friend just gave me a beautiful, hand made, old wooden net (trout size) and it has a little brass plaque on the handle with the initials "L.B.Y." My friend was very secretive about the initials but alluded to them belonging to a "famous fisherman..."

Any guesses? I haven't figured it out yet....
