OK, I've been struggling with making braided loops. The 50# isn't bad with the wire I'm using(too flexible), but getting the wire into the 25# is really frustrating. I've tried major chain and local hardware stores and can't find any single strand small enough. Yesterday I tried a music store and a piano repair place, and no one has piano wire(looked too big to me anyway). So, if anyone is willing to share a couple strands, I'll send a SASE and $5 for whatever you're using that works.

John -

Go back to the Music store , get a Guitar string for electric , .017 , or .013 (a light G or B string) - cut off 12 inches , double it , and barrel wrap it onto a big swivel .

It works well .

John,.... In addition to David's very good idea, I've been using twisted, multi-strand wire inserted into Gudebrod 50# braid to construct connections for tandem hooks on larger flies. I dip the tip of the wire in Flexament and let it dry. Then insert it into the braid. Never have had a problem with it. You might be able to adapt it to your needs.... :)

I use a fly tying bobbin threader. I have never had a problem with 25 pound braid.

Hmmmm,.... Think I may've misunderstood the original post. A Griffin bobbin threader can be inserted into a 30# dacron fishing line to create loops. After doing that for several years now, I'm sure you could do the same with 25# test dacron. :)

David: The guitar strings are perfect. .010, .013, and .017 etc. all in the pack. Plus I can get 3 "tools" out of each string. (p.s. I had tried a bobbin threader, and promptly broke it.)

Yeah .... the bobbin threader broke the first time I used it , too !

Barrel-wrap your Guitar strings to a large swivel - easy to handle .
