An impressive number of CCFU members came out for a weekday trip to
Lake Amador yesterday. Members included: Gary Eastman, Jack Harris,
Russ Heckley, Bill Hetland, Jake Mater, Craig McCulloch, Rich Miller,
Bill Ozawa, Andy Penn, Joe Puglisi, and Robert Rountree. Hope I
didn't miss anyone. Met for breakfast at Ione Cafe, and then off to
the lake.

Unfortunately, fishing wasn't quite as impressive as hoped. Water
levels are way, way down from prior years, but the fish were
tantilizing everyone with lots of surface activity. People were
averaging 1-2 fish per rod, but included a couple of people who
didn't catch fish, and a couple of people who caught x4 fish each.
Caught fish ranging from 12-24inch, and several that got away (or
LDR'd). Best bite seemed to occur during the morning hours into the
early afternoon, but things seem to die off after about 2pm. Most
consistent area was in front of the Carson Arm off the shoreline
approximately 30-100ft. Believe most fish were caught on top using
either floating line or intermediate, but some success was found
going deep with type IV line per various reports. Usual flies (see
CFFU Nov. 08' newsletter) were working, but none consistently. Olive
seemed to be the best color. Most unusual fly that worked was a
stimulator on top (sorry, didn't hear specific color of body) that
picked up a couple of fish.

If you're planning on attending the Dec. 6th outing, and have a float
tube or pontoon boat, I'd like to suggest that you assemble your
floating device ahead of time or at least do it higher up in the
parking lot. The main launch ramp is very constricted space-wise due
to the low lake level, and can get easily clogged. We can help one
another carry pontoon boats, etc. down the ramp, and launch quickly.
Not enough space to park your vehicle down at the bottom, and put
your stuff together.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Dec. 6th outing to lake
Amador,

Robert Rountree
