I am taking the week off between Christmas and New Year. I need to be in Eugene for the New Years celebration. Sounds like the end of December is slow on the Costal Oregon Rivers. Does anyone know any different? I may just stay in Northern CA and fish the K and the T. But I would like to get up into OR since I gotta go there anyway. Anyone used any good guides in Southern OR or the Eugene area?
Thanks in Advance

That has historically been prime time on certain Oregon coast rivers. You'll want to look north rather than south that time of year, though. The Alsea, for example, is at it's peak in and around that time. And, because most rivers on the Oregon coast were stocked with Alsea strain fish for many decades, those rivers had large returns in December. There has been a lot of movement towards broodstock programs in recent years that have shifted hatchery returns to coincide with later returning native runs on many rivers, e.g., Siletz, Nestucca, etc., but I believe many rivers on the coast still have the early returning hatchery runs as well. The North Fork Alsea, for example, is a fly friendly river with decent access that offers good fishing in December. A bit of a drive from Eugene (it's pretty much due west of Corvallis) I have not fished the North Coast in close to ten years at this point, and I have not kept up with changes in management that closely. I used to do really well beginning at Thanksgiving and throughout December, however. The biggest problem that time of year can be flows--not enough water or way too much.
You might want to check out the Wilson river in Tillamook as well

I will second the Alsea recommendation.
Check with Rich Youngers out of Salem.
