My fish crew recovered this GIANT King on Battle Creek this week. I can't remember the length and girth measurements but a salmon weight calculator we got off the internet estimated it at 85 POUNDS!!

If there had been a fishing season this year on the river somebody might have broken the state record?? (88 pounds). A remarkable fish. Matt

Holy Cow..................that is a big one.

If you caught that one in the ocean it would have been a wild fight.

I believe it is: Length x Girth(squared) divided by 800. That's a brute.

Matt that is a magnificent creature! Glad to see we still had something like that in our system. Imagine the quality of the genes passed along to a new generation of Kings in our California waters. As Darian posted "mission accomplished." Thanks for sharing the pic.
Cheers, Ken

Having experienced handling dead salmon, I'm guessing it smelled like a bottle of ammonia. On land they will get pretty foul but the ones still in the drink tend to smell like pure ammonia, but it still flares the nostrils haha.
