"Rivers of a Lost Coast" has been produced by our good friend Justin Coupe.
They even got Tom Skerritt (father in 'A River Runs Through It') to narrate it.
They will have a showing soon in Sacramento.
Several years ago I actually helped Jason compile a list of old time fly fishers to interview.
I am in the movie twice in short old 8m/m movie clips that Joe Shirshac took of me.
Many of our old fly fishing buddies are in the film.
I have seen a rough cut of the film and it is beyond words to describe.
Anyone who has fished for steelhead or salmon with a fly will get emotional during this movie.
I could go on forever but I just have to stop.........
Look like a cool flick, Bill.
Please let us know when it is out and where it can be seen.

WOW, is all I can say.... I use to fish with these guys on the North Coast rivers back in the late 70's. I know a few guys who still fish the Smith and Chetco starting in November (if there's water). I got tired of fishing pram to pram, so I pulled up anchor and quit fishing the North Coast.
I keep an eye out for the movie

Never done the pram thing, but spent many a day on those rivers. Looks like a great flick! Please let me know when they are doing a screening or when available to buy.

Wow Bill, that thing looks like it is going to be incredible.
Please let us know when the showing in Sacramento will be held.
I'll bet that thing is going to see a bunch of "air time" in the shop!
I often wonder who is the less fortunate, those that were around to experience that coastal fishing before they lost it for good, or those like me who were born to late? Oh well, everything in this reality changes. I think it is great we now will have this kind of documentation available for all of us to see "what was".
I guess there still is a little bit of that tidewater fishing left? I understand that people still get the Kings on the Smith and Chetco. When conditions are right I know they still catch some steelies down low on the Russian and others as well....Matt

This is Justin Coupe, we spoke briefly last week about a fly fishing film coming to the Crest Theater called Rivers of a Lost Coast. I finally confirmed with the Crest, the film will be showing at 5:30 pm and again at 8:00 pm on Wednesday April 22nd and again Thursday April 23rd. Each showing will be followed by a brief question and answer forum with the filmmakers. The Crest is located at 1013 K street in downtown Sacramento.
Tickets will be $10. In a few day tickets will be available in advance at www.thecrest.com or by calling the box office at 1-800-225-2277. You can also pick up tickets at the Crest prior to and the day of the event. We are showing in the smaller downstairs theater where space is limited. We are strongly suggesting interested parties to purchase tickets in advance.

Brian Hoffman wrote in today's SF chronicle:
"Justin Coupe and Palmer Taylor have made a movie about a history and legacy of California, about fish that move from coastal mountains to river to sea and back again. It's a documentary about our great-grandfathers and grandfathers and fathers and uncles and a dream world before a collective and difficult awakening.
The Fishing Report
It's what's left when there is so little left, except for nostalgia and the priceless stories to further and perpetuate a desire and willingness and, with some luck, an answer.
Coupe and Taylor made a movie about what they call the golden age of fly-fishing for steelhead and salmon, and not anywhere, but here, on the San Lorenzo and the Russian and Eel and that far off river called the Smith, places explored and learned by more interesting generations and helped along with large contributions by San Francisco's own Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club.
At its center are the legendary Bill Schaadt and his supposed opposite, Ted Lindner, two fishermen with two ideals who did the same thing in different ways.
Their stories are told by fishermen, guys who were there, Russell Chatham and Tooch Colombo and Lani Waller and quite a few others, all local heroes in their own and similar ways.
In a greater sense, it is a modern history of our coastal streams and world. And if it was needed before, it's more needed now, if only to know what we had before so much of it was taken away.
"Rivers of a Lost Coast" opens in select theaters next month. There's a Web site by the same name, as well.
The 4-Star Theatre in San Francisco has picked up Rivers of a Lost Coast for a week long run beginning next Friday April 3rd. The film will be shown twice a day thru May 9th. The exact times of the showings will be announced on Monday and we’ll be sure to let you know.
If you’re in the area, the premiere is promising to be a special night and the filmmakers will be on hand to field questions after the screenings. The 4-Star is located at Clement and 23rd Avenue a few blocks north of Golden Gate Park.
In other good news, additional showings have been added to the Berkeley and Santa Rosa screenings. Rivers of a Lost Coast will be playing at Berkeley’s Rialto Cinemas Elmwood on April 21st and 22nd at 4:30 and 7:15 and at Santa Rosa’s Rialto Cinemas Lakeside on April 27th and 28th at 4:30 and 7:15. Tickets available at the door.
The Rivers of a Lost Coast team is also proud to announce The Tuolumne River Trust has decided to sponsor the Modesto Screening on April 16th which we be held in the beautiful State theatre.
Hope to see you there.
