I have to say that I really like my new Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 lens. The lens is wide enough for landscapes and fairly close fish-fighting action shots. I was also impressed with the quality of the macro capability too.

The following pictures are from my last trip to the Trinity.

Here's one of my favorite landscapes:

You can see the effect of the 17mm range with this shot. I really like being able to get a wider shot like this now:

However I am interested in a 11-16mm Tokina for my next lens. I really like that ultra wide distorted view but that lens is less versatile than my new Tamron. With my Tamron portraits will be free of heavy distortion, portraits like this:

Check out these macro shots, compared to my original lens I can really appreciate the detail. Now a true macro lens will do a better job but this lens isn't a true macro lens and it offers more versatility.

And I am also very happy to be able to use a more shallow depth of field (DOP) and get shots like these:

This picture of Mike was taken at 50mm and f2.8, I like the look:

Do any of you other SLR shooters have a "favorite" lens for fishing pictures? If so please show us some pictures from that lens.

Adam, if I was half the photographer you are, I'd post a pic or two. But, I need to quit chasing the those damn elusive steelhead (it's like a disease!) and work on my photography skills.

Great pix!!!!!!!!!
