My friend (of over 30 years) Brett Jensen out of Palo Cedro pretty much gave up fishing for the last couple of years and took up mountain climbing (he is getting damn close to 60 as am I) and was climbing peaks to 21,000 feet in the Himalayas last year. Well I talked him into a trip recently - first trip with him in 2 years and managed a few nice fish and some great times

Here is a gorgeous steelhead

Brett has a great underwater digital and got a couple of great underwater shots of a pretty chinook

So Hope I have him hooked again and that he takes up the sport because it just is not the same without him!!

Really great fish and photos Rick! I especially like that underwater King photo. Any King left in California these days seems like a pretty special critter....

Looks like you made your annual trip to your "secret creek" Nice. Matt

I met Brett in 1975 - we were married to 2 sisters and he came up to visit us in Eureka. He was living in San Jose at the time and was good friends with the owner of the Mill Pond (one of the first fly shops that made it big). Although I was fishing alot, Brett really was one of the guys that got me obsessed with fly fishing and fly tying! He is a great story teller and a superb photographer and has a couple of the most entertaining and informative slide shows (one on steelheading and one on stillwater tactics) that he has shown to clubs all over.

He started a part time guide service with Mark Lane and when Mark moved on, Brett and I started a part time guide service called Klamath Connection. He bailed after a couple of years and I stayed with it for another 8 years or so guiding out of Time Flies in Arcata.

Brett takes a bit of getting used to and there area number of restaurants I am reluctant to go back to because of some of his stunts! He is the type of guy who orders a McWater when we went into a McDonalds. We were having breakfast one time at 4:30 in the morning getting ready for a trip to the Klamath and he asked the waitress if there was an optometrist close by and what time he opened. One time driving through San Francisco, he asked the gas station attendant if he knew Patty Hearst and where did she live.

So I am always cringing a bit when I am around him but I can honestly say it is never dull!! It only gets worse when I am fishing with him and his two sons!!!

yes - he was following the spinner and swiped at it but somehow he got hooked on the outside of the mouth. I could not tell that until I got him to the bank but no harm as he was released to spawn.
