Upper Sac/McCloud reports?????

I am headed up Friday to Dunsmuir and I am hoping things are really starting to pick up with all this cold weather. Just wondering if anyone has any reports and if the flows are back down on the McCloud. I am going to check with the Fly Shop as well, but I am hoping some of you have been up there.

We had a cabin in Dunsmuir for about 10 years and we know old Joe well.

He is a piece of fly fishing history in Nor Cal.

First week of Sept fished the upper McCloud above the falls with a couple buddies. Did well with a 12" and 14" hatchery trout. I was surprised with the size of fish for a small river. Caught them both dead drifting a #20 cinnamon color dry. The grabs were very aggressive. Highly recommend you visit Ted's Fly Shop as my good fortune were the result of his fly picks. Campsite recommendation - Fallon. Good fishing.

High flows, low flows....it is all good when you are on the McCloud I guess. I can't wait to hit the road. I will definitely report back next week.

Got back from my annual pilgrimage to the Upper Sac and McCloud. If you are looking for a solid fly fishing excursion, I highly recommend that area and now is the time. We use Dunsmuir as our headquarters. As always, the scenery was amazing. I have some more pictures I will post later that display the Fall colors. As for the fishing, very decent compared to prior years.

As far as flies go. The October Caddis is in full swing. We hit fish with Stimulators on the top. I hit quite a few on some PT's and Prince nymphs.
