Tied up some Clousers for those imaginary Delta Stripers yesterday and figured I'd go ahead and epoxy the heads. Funny stuff, that epoxy. Turns out that if you don't rotate the darn things quick you end up with all the epoxy hanging like a drip on the end of your fly.

So this morning I tied up the same flies that I did yesterday and made myself a uh, hmm, an epoxy head dryer? I pirated the rotisserie off of my old gas grill(I'm a weber kettle addict now, thanks to David Lee) and mounted the hardware on a wood base. A couple of chunks of foam to hang flies on and away I go.
I can let my epoxy cure nice and even and cook it to a nice golden brown.:D

Seems to work just fine, although the noise from the motor will give me a headache after about 3 minutes.

After looking at those pics, I had to look back at my tying space. I think I've outgrown it. Shoot, I've got flyfishing crap all over the room, half the garage, and part of a shed.
OMG! I've got a monkey on my back! I used to be so normal too. Well, kinda normal anyway.

Wanna know a trick about working with epoxy? You can heat it with a blow dryer before you apply it, or after. Either way, it'll accelerate the cure time and reduce or eliminate the need for turning.

Rotisserie clousers, I wonder if Ron Popeil makes something like that.

Hey Ed,.... Great idea. If you have any of that foam left, you might try wrapping some around the motor to help cut down the noise.... Leave some space or holes to avoid overheating.... :-k :-k

Not sure if you were aware, but Flexicoat makes a perfectly reasonable jig/fly turner: http://www.flexcoat.com/lurefin.html

Sure it costs a few bucks more than your own Rube Goldbergesque solution, but it runs on batteries, has a MUCH smaller footprint, and is pretty quiet as well. Just a thought.
