Hi everybody, hope you all are doing well!

I have an old Pflueger Medalist Fly Reel 1495 that I bought in the early 60s. It's in great shape and I was wondering if I should lube the spindle or leave it alone! Its spins very nicely, no problems at all, but I wanted your opinions! If you feel it needs lubrication, what kind/brand? Can you help? :)

Thanks,

Norm

Hey Cap,.... Maybe the reason your spools spin freely is that the spindle has worn (or not). :? :?

I've had some pfluegers (model 1495 1/2 since the 60's as well. They are durable but (like humans) do require a periodic lube job. Since I'm also a saltwater (conventional/spin/fly) guy, I've always had some Penn Reel Lube hanging around and relied on that stuff for the task. 8) 8)

Give 'em a lube job; give 'em a smile.... :D :D :D

I like any of those paste type reel lubes.

Penn, Garcia or Super Lube.

I would put some on there.

If they are dry they can 'chatter' at high speeds with faster fish.
