Well, I can sum it up with 2 words. Slow and Windy.

It was still a good time, I'd never show if it wasn't. Met some new friends, got another big bunch of free knowledge, some more tying tips, add some more fish and maybe a winning lotto number and it would have been perfect.

I showed up Friday afternoon, just as Scott was finishing setting up the Megalith, geez that things big. We hit the water around 4 and were joined by AndonB in his boat. Me and Scott spent a few hours getting blown around, getting snarls in the line, snagging on tules, just generally having a blast. Andan came by again with some cock and bull story about catching 3 by some rock wall, yeah, sure ya did. :D Back to the docks and dinner. That little cafe has a kinda short :? menu but what they do have they do pretty well. By now the wind is howling.

Saturday morning, hit it early and hit it hard. We had a brief respite from the wind. It didn't stop but it did slow down for a while. I caught my one and only LMB and dropped another during this relative calm at high tide.

It was actually light just not light enough to satisfy my camera.

We all managed to get together about noon for a bbq/bs session. That part's always a blast. Met some new fishers, some of them neighbors of mine, did some grillin, and talked fishing for a couple of hours. Then we went back for another dose of hurricane force winds and tsunamis in the evening. Mike Churchill called me on my cel and said he found a school of tiny stripers by the first opening in the wall. Since I'd been catching both Jack and sh_ _ pretty regularly by then I jumped on it.
So here we go, me and my eight ft pram on the outside of the wall on Frank's Tract during a high wind. The roller coaster ride was non stop. Mike was plucking diapers out of there almost non stop. I think he had a supply of anchovies stashed somewhere. While I did pick two up baby stripes the beating just wasn't worth it. I was the first to bail.Although it looked like everyone else was just waiting for someone to go first. They were all coming in behind me when I cleared the opening. It's hard to tell from these pics but I was bouncing up an down the whole time out there.

If you look real close and squint a little you can see Scott's holding up a newborn striper.

This is just another shot taken from out where I shouldn't be.

Back at the dock that evening there were the usual incredible stories, the big one that got away , the big one that rolled right in front of someone , the ever popular, and my personal favorite the "you should have been here yesterday" stories.
New for this year, although I can't verify it I still believe it, was the gigantic striper by the docks nibbling on a slice of bread. Apparently this Mo is a local, the owner sees him all the time.

There are some issues there at Lundborgs that have made me want to relocate this event for next year. Looking for ideas for maybe the Moke side of the delta. We need a spot with a no wake zone for float tubes to fish, campsites, a boat ramp, and tons and tons of fish just chomping at the bit to bite a fly.
We can actually do without the first three items. :D Ed

I had a great time until the wind gave me a massive headache. I will have to wash the skunk off at a local pond full of bluegill/bass later this week. It was a long haul home, so I am open to thoughts about a place on the north side of the Delta also. I have only fished the Delta five times, so I am not much help in naming a place to go. It was nice meeting everyone and hope to fish with everyone soon. Ed, I am ready for dumb Seco trout! Later, Bill...Fishngy

Well, I showed up Saturday morning and had a great time as I always do at these Bassfests. The fishing and catching parts were tough -- I started fishing a little after 8:00 a.m. and, between the low water level and wind, only managed to get one topwater largemouth in close to 3 hours of fishing:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v484/Sachlil/2009Bugfest1.jpg

This one clobbered my deer hair diver next to a stand of tules in the middle of a tule forest inside of Frrank's Tract and, at just over 17" and thick, put up a pretty spirited fight. Felt good to get one. Later on, while I was paddling around, though, I heard what sounded like a small motor on the back of my inflatable kayak -- turns out I had sprung a leak below the waterline, so I called it at 11:00 a.m. and headed in to patch it and hang out until folks started showing up for the afternoon lunch/B.S. session:

By the way, more fellas showed up than you see in this one picture. Anyway, for me, this was the funnest part of the day. You can always go fishing but it isn't often that you get to sit in a big circle with a bunch of fellas from the Board and laugh and talk about fishing, flies, fish, fly tying, locations, etc. It was also a real treat getting to meet a bunch of great fellas from the Board in person for the 1st time.

Fished again in the afternoon and, other than a couple of hits, caught nothing on topwater. Here's a picture of Mike C. and Eric(?) pestering stripers in Piper Slough:

Man, the afternoon wind was just too much. Make a cast, paddle back 30' to where I was, make another cast, pick up the paddle again. . . . Ah well, the company alone made the trip totally worth it for me. I also support the idea of scouting a new location for the next one -- a location with more fish. I will join in on the location research as well.

As everyone has stated it was your typical end of summer early fall windy weather. The fish action was rather slow for the majority of us but I personally still had fun and am looking forward to the next camp out. But we do need to find another spot, Lunborgs is going down the drain, with holes in the ramps big enough to swallow a boat and dog poop all over the place because people feel they do not need to clean up after their pets.

Another beautiful sunrise on the delta

I wouldn't mind fishing out of this

It was great to meet new people from this board and fishing was slow Saturday. I got there Friday mid-morning and fished the evening back in one of the sloughs. Here is a photo (i hope) of the 5#4oz. bass caught friday night by Alice. http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w53/Dave4622/alice5lbbass.jpg

Topwater frog was the ticket. This was her first top water experience and the largest fish she has ever caught.

Nice fish Alice, nothing more fun than a big ol' bass slamming a frog on top.
