On Tuesday Jason Hartwick and friends were at Johnson Bar below Weitchpec where 15-20 inch hot Half-pounder Steelhead were very thick.

Jason said he had over a dozen on and missed a bigger adult fish.

It's time to get up to the Klamath River.

Sept/Oct/Nov are all good months on the Klamath.

The half pounders are in thick in the lower Klamath right now. I was able to spend a couple of days on the lower klamath swinging flies for adult steelhead and half pounders. While I was only able to hook one adult steelhead, there were a lot of to be hooked. Most were in the 14-20" range and chrome bright. A lot of fun on a lightweight spey rod. Even managed to land a dime bright Jack salmon.

If you get a chance to get out there, you should. This should be a great year for both half pounders and steelhead on the klamath and trinity rivers.

Hello All. This must be the season for newbies, such as myself, ..suppose it's good so as to keep the sport flourishing. Any recommedation on set-up to use...ie. 3X leader and tippet, sinking leader??? How about flies...dries, nymphs, color and size?? Pretty obvious..have never fished the Klamath. Any and all help would be much appreciated.

I would agree with every thing that Bill suggested, but do not hesitate to go to 0x tippet. The fish on the Klamath are not leader shy.

Also a size #6 fly is probably the most common size.

I might add that there are about seven species of sculpin in the river so try a wool head sculpin.
