Well I decided to go to the river looking for steelies instead of going up to the sierras after work. No one on the water at 4:30 when I got there, so after about 4 casts I hook and land my first steelie for this fall run. Not a strong fighter but a nice fish. Around 15-17 inches hatchery. The water temp was 72 so I was surprised I even got one fish. Nothing more after that, saw only one fish bust the water. No caddis hatch to mention, I think I saw 2 flying around. Guppy came out but had no luck, he had one bite but that was about it. Other than that just a nice time spent standing chest deep in the water.

A nice dragonfly that decided to pose for me.

It's nice just being out on our own beautiful river after work.......

I was talking about it just yesterday at the shop. In the mid-60s I worked at a nice sporting goods store, Sports Unlimited, on Arden Way near Watt, so before and/or after work I would drive to Goethe Park, River Park,Watt or Howe Avenue and fish for Half-pounders or Shad or Stripers.

I've been working within miles of that shop and doing that same thing for over 40 years.....

The only persons I know who have fished the river longer than me continuously are Chuck Campana and Joe Shirshac. They are still at it.......

I swear Scott you must have some short of steelhead mojo. It seems like every time you go out there is at least one fish with your name on it. I will try to join you out there some evening soon. Go get em man!
My season may start Saturday morning (hopefully :D ).

I get them in the same spot everytime, you know my spot, go out and get them. I have heard it is much better in the morning. I may try and sneak out Monday morning, if I can I'll drop you a PM and maybe you can join me.

Wow! Scott, I don't know why our photog types haven't mentioned it but that dragonfly pic with the splayed wings is awesome. The way your flash captured the body makes it look lit from within.
How about it Adam? Ben? He's far from your league but for a point and shoot camera and one hand holding the flyrod, given the angle of the sun in the shot, isn't that one hell of a pic?
It's replaced one of my own cutthroat pics for my background on the 'puter. Ed

I'd say that the dragonfly cooperated very well!
