Terry Thomas, Sam Dasher, Aaron Stiny and I fished Monday and Tuesday with jet boat guide Alan Borges. We fished from Klamath Glen just above the ocean all the way up to Pecwan Creek riffle near Johnson's Bar.

The water is cooler (65-68 degrees) than last years August trip but the fish were still hunkered down in the deep fast runs that were very hard to get to or even fish with a fly rod.
A week ago they got a good run of Halfpounders through the lower river.
We caught some 'Quarterpounders' (14") and Aaron got a 4 pound jack salmon on a fly which was really hot.
I got lots of practice with my Spey casting so that was good.
Got to cast some switch rods which are extremely light and easy to cast.
September is the prime month on the lower Klamath but we like to run up there for a "quicky" in August. In was nice to get up on the north coast in the cool fog too.
We stay right off Hwy 1 at the Ravenwood Motel which is reasonable, clean and friendly.

Mike Kuczynski (20 plus years of guiding on the Klamath) of the Eureka Fly Shop says they start to get Steelhead into the lower river from July on so they do have some good days before September/October.

If you want to get up there in September/October let me know and I can give you more advice on planning a trip there.
