The Fly Fishers of Davis will meet at Harper Junior High School on July 29 for a program on tailwater fisheries and dam relicensing. Russ Kanz, a senior scientist with the State Water Resources Control Board in Sacramento, will talk about the role of the State Water Board in hydroelectric project licensing, the science used to study the impacts of hydroelectric projects on fishery resources, and conservation measures designed to protect them. For the past nine years Russ has worked to ensure hydroelectric projects throughout California comply with the Clean Water Act. Some of the projects he has worked on include the Pit, McCloud, Stanislaus, Mokelumne, Truckee, Feather, and Klamath Rivers. The program will cover river function, practical application of river science, and factors that contribute to fish growth. We may also discover a few good places to catch big fish during the presentation. Join us for this most interesting and entertaining program. The meeting starts at 7:30 with time for visiting, and the program begins at 8:00. Guests and visitors are welcome, and there are never any lies in the fishing reports!
