View Full Version : Patenting Ideas (releasable strike indicator)

My dad has invented a releasable strike indicator for long leader indicator fishing (e.g.choronomids in still-water), that is far far superior to anything that is commercially available, and doesn't seem to be patented already. It's too good an idea to keep just for himself and his friends, but understandably, he doesn't want to just give it away.

I was wondering if any of you have ever "invented" something fly fishing related and had experience in terms of affordably patenting your idea, and/or marketing your idea to fly fishing companies. I would think that a company like Frog Hair or Rio might want to buy his idea.

Thanks for the advice.

IMHO, unless your father has enough capital to obtain the patent and market the product himself, sell the concept/idea and let someone else carry the ball/risks. 8) 8) Gotta be careful to deal only with reputable companies as there're many pirates out there.... :? :?

Good luck.... :D :D :D :D
