Thanks to high gas prices and time limitations I have been fishing some local streams and I've been having a blast. I fished for about 2 hours today and I crushed some smallmouth with my 4wt. I caught a much higher percentage of large smallmouth today, large being anywhere from 7-8" or larger.......... especially since there are a ton of small 3"-6" smallies out there. Thanks to Hogan Brown's advice and teachings I have honed down the techniques need to catch these spooky little fish.
Here's a few sample pics of average smallies:

Now here's a few pics of some of the "big" smallies from today:

The last one was around 12" and a few others were over 10"which made today very exciting for me.
I found myself enjoying the feisty-ness of smallies today and thinking about how IMHO trout pale in comparison as far as the fight is concerned, heck I even had 3 smallies shoot right out of the water today as soon as I hooked up. I also was enjoying the excitement that the initial excitement of hooking up with a fish, that rush or exhilaration is addictive!
If you guys have any smallies waters near by you should give them a try because they fight harder than trout and you don't have to drive far to fish them.
