Fished the Truckee this past Holiday weekend. Fishing was unreal! No very many people on the river, only saw one group of rafters. The smoke is still kind of a problem but doesn't seem to be affecting the fishing.
The hot fly was a size 18 lightning bug and HBI nymph. Also took a few larger fish on Pats Stone. After fishing the Truckee for a few years, I have come to learn that more split shot is the key to success. If you aren't losing a few flies than you aren't fishing. With the temperature rising, look for the fish to be deep. Not much bug activity on the surface. I assume most of the hatches are happening later in the day. Both days I fished I was there from 8 until noon.
