Fished Kelsey Bass Ranch for the first time with some long time friends. Started fishing at 0730 with a water temp of 71. My first fish came in about 15 minutes. We caught fish throughout the day. It did slow down mid-day due to the heat, and picked up in the evening. Topwater flies worked pretty well in the morning, and very well in the evening. The bass were feeding heavilly on bass fry. 1" long streamers stripped fast on sinking lines produced the most fish. Because of the very hot weather the water temp rose to 80 degrees by late afternoon. I caught almost half of my fish on a fly called Todd's Wiggle Minnow, on a sinking line and short leader. It has an action closer to a crankbait than any fly I've ever used. I'm not sure if Kiene's carries this fly, but if they don't they should. Overall it was a great day. We plan to go back next year.
