We have heard that Shad are at the mouth of the American River and the mouth of the Feather River.

They are in the Lower Feather River as far up as Shanghai Bend.

Local guide Ryan Miller drifted over a nice school all the way up near Sailor Bar this week?

It will just get better and they will keep moving upstream for the next month or so.

Fish small, sparce #8 flies and lighter (3x) FC tippet in this low clear water.

AM and PM is almost always better for Shad.

Got a few last night around Howe. This seasons fish must be on
steroids.

Got 18 yesterday (3 were large hens) on the Lower A.. Size 10 fly and Type 2 shooting head. Lots of action in the morning and sporadic in the afternoon. It was nice to see F&G out in a jet boat doing enforcement. No crowds to speak of (must have been Mother's Day). Jeff C.

A buddy and I hooked 25+ above Watt. Floating line with #14 Red Copper John under an indicator. We also got a small, but nice Steelhead, around 3 pounds. :)

WOW!!!! Looks like you were right. I didn't figure a red Copper John would be the best, tho. :? :? Great trip for you. Guess I'll have to get out there and try an indicator now....

People are using small flies for Shad this year in the low clear water.

Stripers on an indicator?

Shad fishing was slow this weekend down for most people in the lower river. Some anglers caught fish but it was real sporadic. I got 6 on Saturday and got skunked yesterday with 2 LDRs. Terry Thomas showed up Sunday morning and caught some with his spey rod testing a sink tip that he made from a shooting head. Jeff C.

The A is set to go up to 1500 cfs tomorrow, Wed 5/21. This should help, a little.

This is good news. I'd like to see the flow higher to bring more fish into the A. but anything is better than 1000 cfs. Jeff C.

Went out after work yesterday. It was really windy. About 8 guys fly fishing but only 3 guys hooking up regularly. As I was about to leave I casted and said "Last cast!". I then promptly hooked into a nice hen. Landed her and went home early. I ended up getting 6.
