Welded loops....

Steve Godshall has now figured out how to make really clean professional looking welded loops on fly lines himself.

He has been teaching others like Jeff Putnam how to do it as well.

I think this is a big break through for civilians to be able to make their own welded loops and maybe splice lines together too.

Steve is a real ambassador to the two-handed sport.

He is a guide on the Rogue River and assists Gary Anderson in his custom rod works too.

It is also covered in al buhrs book called custom line building. pretty easy to do once you get the stuff to do it.

Steve's technique is a little different from the method in Al's book. It produces a cleaner, slimmer loop. Great job Steve! Always teaching us something new.

Well...I was so impressed with Steve and Gary Anderson's welded loop procedure, I went out and bought a 1200 Watt heat gun ($28) and some 1/8 diameter clear shrink tubbing. I cut off all my braided loops and after a few false starts, weld looped every line I have. Here are a few sample shots. The first is of Cortland 4444 WF5F and Vision floating Shooting head for my skagit spey setup.

Each loop took less the 10 minutes once I got the hang of it.
