Ditto the reports Bill.
A friend reported his personal best day there one day last week. Twenty something fish to hand. Stripping chironimides and buggers near the boatramp at Pelican Point (Pelican Point....?). He is generally not a "highliner" either.
They have closed the Nets to fishing for spawning time, I hear.

According to the website for reno fly shop, the closure is:

"PYRAMID LAKE
The Area from Sutcliff Marina to the very South end of the South Nets is closed"

Not sure where the south end of the south nets is, tho. :? :? :?

I asked the Ranger where the closed area was. He showed me on a map. There is a point that sticks out south of the nets. It is the first point on the map south of the nets. It is a little more than a mile south of Sutcliffe. He said there are no signs up.

It seems like the line-up has moved from the nets to Pelican and Separator. Saturday was slow. Sunday was better.

Hey Bill and Lee !

You are both correct about Pyramid and I took advantage of the good fishing there this last week. It has been a long time between fishing trips for me and I finally got out for the first time this year getting up to fish Pyramid Lake on Thursday and Friday of this last week. Brian ORourke, a good friend of mine I had met through a board event a few years back, had been inviting me to join him for some time and thank goodness I finally made time to make it up there with him. We also got to fish with Greg Sano another friend on the second day when he joined up with us.

It was my first experience fishing Pyramid and it was a terrific one. Brian and I were probably both just into the double digit numbers in terms of catching fish on both days. Midge patterns under indicators were probably the top producer for both of us while we also caught some nice ones stripping in wooly buggers or beetle patterns with sinking lines. We fished most of Thursday and about a little more than half a day on Friday. Greg stayed there after we left and I heard he did really well for the day.

Here are a couple pictures from our trip. Boy I can really kick myself for not catching that water spot on my camera sooner! That spot ruined several great shots I took on that first day and I included a few here anyway. Even Dana couldn’t totally fix them although she did improve them some.

Thanks again Brian and Greg for the great time!

Best Wishes and tight lines to all!

Nice pics Bill and grand report. Greg is one of our favorite people to run into at Pyramid (or anywhere). His smile is certainly infectous and I do believe a more knowledgable and sharing stillwater man would be danged hard to find.

Can anyone suggest a part of Pyramid lake where I can go to float tube and won't get in the way of the ladder guys, but can still hug the shoreline?

Any beach that is accesible can be float tubed. The main thing to be aware of is the wind.Things can get ugly very quickly and extremely dangerous winds can occur in a matter of minutes.Get the latest weather and use your best judgement.A float tube is unnecessary this time of year as large schools of fish are swimming within a few feet of the shore.Have fun!

BigBill ...Jay is right about easy float tube access. But I suggest that you don't do it. [-X Along with the potential wind problem, there is the fact that the water is cold, very cold. Those folks are not standing on ladders just to get a good view of the fish. A lot of the time the fish are cruising behind them anyway. The main reason for being up there is to keep out of the water. A pontoon boat where you are sitting up out of the water and you have a set of oars to help get you back to shore should the wind pick up might work but a float tube can not only be dangerous, it can be very uncomfortable.........Anne

We heard it is "smoken hot" up at Pyramid Lake north of Reno, Nevada right now.

Those folks are not standing on ladders just to get a good view of the fish. The, "no-shit" file thanks you for the most recent entry, lol. The question was less about float tubing, and more about where can I go to avoid the ladder crowds. Casting next to a lineup of camo neoprene enthusiasts perched atop ladders throwing panther martins doesn't really sound appealing. :D

Bill....Sorry but I didn't get your drift on why you wanted to use a float tube. :D.

There are only so many access points to the west shore of the lake. They are all easy to find and well marked. Unfortunately you will find people fishing at everyone of them. The bigger line ups are either at the Nets or the first couple of access points north of Sutcliff (Separator and Pelican Point). Your best chance of avoiding a line up is to head south of town toward Wino Beach, Lone Tree and Popcorn. Keep in mind that a lot of folks move around to get out of the wind. It can be howling up at the Nets and almost calm down at Popcorn or vice versa.

I'm leaving tomorrow to fish Pyramid with my club (GWWF). Maybe I'll see you up there. Good luck......Anne
