All pics were shot with my Pentax Optio W30.

One of the prettiest flowers that grows in one of the ugliest places. the California Poppy.

Looking at Sacramento from the 50 before you come down the hill to Bidwell.

Good stuff, those poppies have always been a nice sight on the lower yuba. Next time you should try filling the frame with the flower, it could look cool.

Sweet pics Scott. The poppies are great, but I'm a storm freak I like the first one with the Nimbus.

I see what you are saying, I will try and focus more on the subject and not include un-needed background. Thanks for the idea. the picture would have been much nicer if the poppy took up the whole shot.

Scott,

Another fun thing to do is to shoot in low light and use a flashlight to uplight, backlight or sidelight the flower. You can get some really cool effects especially if you are in a controlled environment. It really makes the flower glow from the inside out.

Here's an example of how a pin light can light up the center of the flower.

Lastly, get real low for another perspective. Looking sideways or even up at the flower is really cool. We all know what a flower looks like looking down but when you change the perspective, down low, this change in compsition really shines...

Have Fun!

Totally! Some of the coolest flower shots are the one from different angles. And that is not meant as a negative Scott, your pictures are awesome! I am always amazed at the quality of photos that come out of those Optio's.
