The state (commonwealth) of Virginia has once again activated its Shad Cam on the St James River.

Larry, thanks for reminding us of this web site. Hopefully this year, it is of great things to come on our local valley rivers. :D A local Shad fanatic!

I saw about 4 fish at 9:25 pm Pacific Standard Time.

Would be about 12:25PM there in Virginia?

They are only about half inch long on my monitor.

Cool.......

I think they move a lot in the morning and evening and probably at night.

I think they hold more in the mid-day sun.

They are probably 3 hours ahead of us here in California too.

I would like to look at it about 5:00pm PST to see if they are moving more at their 8:00pm EST

Was just looking at it and saw some lamprey eels.

California time 9pm, April 17, Friday night.

You have to watch it for a while.

Man, we're a bunch of old biddies. I spent some time watching it tonight too. I did see some eels go through. I believe the shad on the cam start right around the same time as here.

Speaking of eels, has anyone seen any lampreys in the American in the last few years? Ed

I saw two lampreys down below the log hole a couple of weeks ago.

Murky water; but, lots of fish on the move today.

The Virginia "shad cam" is down for the season now. Another "fish cam" of interest is operated by Lake Superior State University, located on the St Mary's River in northern Michigan. Doesn't have any scaling mechanism; but, you will see quite a variety of fish. Even an occasional diving bird. I hope they receive funding to operate it 24/7.
Cheers,

For the winter months, Lake Superior State U. has aimed their fish cam into the sturgeon tank. These big guys are pretty cool. Check it out at

Thanks Larry!

Looks like we're in for a third drought year in a row out here.
