A big thanks to Dec for his 3 fantastic days of spey/steelhead classes. Everyone who participated learned a great deal about spey casting and fishing for steelhead. Dec is a great teacher and put on a great class. If you have a chance to attend in the future or at least pick his brain at a show do yourself a favor and take advantage of his willingness to share his knowledge. Here's a few shots from the last few days.

Attentive students

When I saw Dec at the Pleasanton Fly Fishing Show, he told me he was going to have surgery for a torn biceps the following Thursday, 9 days before his classes here in Sacramento. I offered encouragement, but, being in the doctor biz, I wondered if he would be able to pull it off...

WHAT A GAMER!

I guess that's what you should expect from someone who possesses a "Passion for Steelhead"!!!

Great report and photos, Aaron...thanks!

And, Thank You Dec, for all you bring to our sport!!!

Thanks for the shots Aaron. Mark your calendars; Dec will be back next year for another group of classes. We may even set up a fly tying night. It was a wonderful three days and 18 students are now better anglers because of Dec's instruction.

First off BIG THANKS to Kienes and especially Terry and Aaron for all the work they put into the classes in the weeks and days leading up to the classes as well as the three days of classes. Great to finally meet you guys face to face. And of course more BIG THANKS to Dec. If I had his surgery and a big ol full arm cast on my arm the last thing I would think of would be picking up a spey rod , LET ALONE CASTING ONE!!! Going in I had a few problems with my casting that I couldnt quite figure out on my own. But between Dec taking us through each cast and the one on one time each problem and then some was quickly taken care of. It was literally like "oh just do this" or " imagine your rod/line doing this" and it was like problem solved or figured out at least!!!! Solving some is going to take some more practicing!@! Decs DVDS and book as well as his whole approach and attitude toward all things steelhead have been a big influence on me. So it was pretty darn cool to be able to actually spend a day casting and talking steelhead with him. So thanks again Dec, take care of that arm, youll need both arms good and healthy next winter when you run into that devilfish on the SF eel again . Kevin Oh yeah Terry you can sign me up for that tying night right now , IM THERE!

I will parallel all that has been said in previous posts! Thank you Terry, Aaron and Dec for everything. That truly was an inspiring day and would do it again in a heart beat. Dec's approach and style to the "game" is awesome. It was also nice meeting other steelhead/spey junkies. Thanks again!
