Launched out of Wimpy's about 2:00 Saturday--just as the wind picked up.

Ran down to Hog Slough (if I remember the map right) and spent a couple of fruitless hours throwing clousers, frogs, and a popper. Ran back up to Beaver Slough and repeated the process and lack of success.

Water temps ranged from below 54 to almost 61--with the high temp on top of a big weed bed near the mouth of Hog.

Some of the folks I talked to also smelled of skunk but a few reported landing small LMB's--some on gear and some on flies.

Around 4:45 the wind dropped, the water turned glassy, and it was just beautiful as the sun dropped.

I'll figure this delta stuff out eventually, I suppose, but I'm having a good time anyway.

Yes, you will. The Delta for largemouths can be very spotty for topwater at this time of year. When the water temps come up, you'll do much better.

At least you didn't have Scott there to keep showing you that there really are fish right in front of you. I think all us Bass Buggers are going Bass Buggy right now waiting for the topwater bite to start.

Paul, his dad and I were out on the Delta Saturday too. The wind blew the whole time, 10-20 mph at any given time, from about 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. We launched from H&H, and headed south first, but the water was really muddy (Potato, White, etc). We didn't hit Hog slough until after lunch around 2 pm. Paul's dad caught a pounder LMB, and missed a couple bites, but Paul and I were SKUNKED. I had one bite and missed it :x . A bit depressing after my two 4 lb'ers and 3 lb'er the other day in the same slough. We, too, registered temps in the mid 50's to low 60's. At least Hog had a little more visibility. In the morning, we were lucky to have 12 inches...

Well, better luck next time, I guess. :(

The delta has been tough the last four days. Even the old salts at my marina that troll almost every day are bringing in few fish, less than one per boat per day.

On Thursday we found three sea lions in Hog and one really active one in Beaver. Overall, I've seen more sea lions this year than last.

I talked to a couple of the big time bass tournament guys prefishing for the upcoming event, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. The first had caught zero fish from 6am to 4pm and the other crew had caught four.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on. The water temps are rising, the clarity is increasing and is more than acceptable, but in most places my two graphs are as clear and white as a snow storm.

The best thing is that things have GOT to get better!

I can not count the number of times I have been skunked on the delta. It got to a point where I absolutley refused to go to the delta. But then Kiene's had the fish out last year and I said, sure I'll go out once more. And I had one of the best days on the delta, then Ed and I decided to go out some more. We knew there were fish and how to get them, but then once again that smelly ol' skunk reared it's ugly face or shoud I say butt, again. Get use to the delta kicking your butt, she is a tough ol' gal to tame.
