Lets start taking a thermometer with us and take the water temp and report it here.

I would love to know what the water temp is in many fisheries.

Floated the Lower Owens today. What a beautiful afternoon. Air temps were around 65-68 degrees sunny with thin high clouds.

At 12 noon the water temp was 46 degrees. We fished through huge swarms of midges, had a great bwo hatch and in the later afternoon the caddis are beginning to come off.

Most days right now through March you can expect water temps to be 45-50 degrees and the baetis hatches are killer! Any day now the caddis will be exploding.

Sycamore Slough ranged from about 57.5 to over 62 on top of the weed beds on Saturday afternoon.

Saw some fish feeding at/near the surface--a fair number around sunset, but nothing on top wanted my flies....

Thanks Steve...when it gets to about 55 degrees it should be real good.

June is my favorite month up there in Dunsmuir but in low water years it can be really good in May.

Had to get away from the world for little a while today. Headed out to Smallmouth Country. Water temp was 76 . Scored a chunky 2 pounder on an olive Hairy Fodder tied on a #4 circle hook. Turns out those hooks do work as advertised, even being slow on the draw that hook was neatly seated in the lip. Went dry for an hour or so, mostly walking and checking spots, then caught a few Squawfish on a small red leechy thing.I only had an hour or so to fish, so I had to get out while the sun was still high. One problem with Cameron Park I discovered from my trip there last Sunday. Do not get your legs in the slimy moss, I now have bite marks all over my legs from something living in the moss.
