All year long. Swinging small nymphs and soft hackels. Spring can be great with larger sculpin patterns.

I know some people swing small olive zonkers and small olive leeches.

I've had some luck swinging muddler minnows below the Highway 20 bridge. BUt I was fishing a floating line with a long leader. I don't know about fishing them with tips, but I can't see why a light sink tip wouldn't work as well.

I know a few people who use streamers with sink tips and they catch more quality fish compared to quantity of fish. They use sculpin patterns and basic streamers like buggers. Give it a try and I'll bet you catch some nice hungry trout.

right on adam. last saturday was my first day on the yuba. nymphing the slower, deeper, tough to get to holes with big stoneflies definitely worked for me. wish i would have been using a 7wt.
