I was just wondering if anybody had any recent reports/news from the American? Seems like it's been slow these days.

It has not been very good but this weekend might be worth a try after all the rain.
I believe February can be very good.

I'm a newby to this forum and even to the bay area and am headed up to the Lower American to try my luck wading this weekend. Any of you veterans have any suggestions for me (i.e. Where to park, Steelhead flies, etc)?
Do crowds tend to be an issue this time of year?

It's very slow. I tried again to fly fish the American river for steelhead on Sun, 1/6, from Rossmore to upper Sunrise. Not even a bite and nobody I talked too caught anything either, including 2 drift boats that went by. Did see one salmon swim by about 2 ft in front of me. Turned out to be a nice day after the storms and the water was stained with about 1-1.5ft visibility.
This pic turned out nice of the deer and bird.
