Many of our larger low elevation reservoirs like Folsom, Berryessa, Oroville, Camache, Pardee, Merle Collins and Amador have good winter trout fishing.

These lakes have warm water and cold water fisheries.

In the summer the trout are deep but late fall, winter and early spring they are very shallow and more easily taken by fly fishers.

These lakes will have a Threadfin Shad 'food fish' population that help to have a healthy fish population.

Many smaller low elevation shallow local lakes and ponds like Rancho Seco and Mather Pond have trout planted in them through the winter. These are a limited time fishery where most of the fish are caught or die in the summer as the pond warms up and becomes a bass/panfish destination.
