View Full Version : 'Getting out of Dodge' in Jan/Feb?

I think that getting out of the cold, rain and fog here in Nor Cal in Jan/Feb would be a great idea.

I know some go to Argentina/Chile, Australia and New Zealand.

The tropics sounds good.

Even down south in the USA would be nice.

Southern Cal would be warmer.

Where are you going?

Hopefully to the cold and rainy northwest coastal steelhead streams, weather permitting!!! Nothing warm in site for me but Bruce and I hope to get up this winter/spring and fish with Scott O and Mike M for a few days

...heading to tampa/orlando area for a family reunion. Fishing reports have not been very encouraging. I might bring my 8 weight ...just in case!

Have a great holiday, all of you!

Bill I grew up in northern Illinois, to fly fish there right now you'd have to cut a really long, narrow hole in the ice. :D There's plenty of fish to be caught right here. I'd bet Cameron Park Lake is fishable. Anyone been up there? Should be some Steelhead in the A after that last storm. Macks should be availiable in the lakes a little higher up. Planters everywhere. Rancho Seco trout derby. Folsom for Spots. LMB in the Delta. Stripers? We're sitting in a flyfishing destination right here............hmmmmm, now I'm really cheesed that I have to work tomorrow. Ed

Dang, I was just thinking about the warm tropics. Here's a few of my photo's from the 2005 Australia trip. Made this trip 5 years in a row.
A fantastic place to fish and I hope to return next year.

Jay

Too bad everyone can't travel like we have.

You need the time, money and the OK from the 'higher ups' to be able to take one of these exotic trips.

When you are posting a message there are these little boxes at the top above this window.

I just right clicked on your photos and went to 'properties' and 'dragged and dropped' the web links/addresses to the photos.

You need to click on the little box with 'Img' at the front first and then drop in the address and then click on 'Close Tags' at the end of the string.

You can always come here to northern Utah for a few days , then go back home , and it will feel like you are in warm weather. :D :D

Geez Jay...a BETTER question is where and how did you land that milk fish with a shrimp imitation? I didn't know they bite on shrimp lures and I am impressed that you landed one without ripping up its mouth!

Thanks for the awesome pictures. Have a great holiday Jay...wherever you are.

Joe,

That milk fish wasn't caught on a shrimp imitation. It was caught on a yellow beat up clouser. I have the photo of the fly that caught the fish

Merry Christmas

Thanks Jay...I stand corrected, that definitely looks like a clouser. That fish is so big it makes that clouser look like a weighted #8 crazy charlie!

Even if you used a grappling hook. landing a milkfish of any size is pretty darn impressive. I think Mems posted a story about basically swimming to keep with one so that the hook didn't rip out when he landed one in Kona.

Congratulations to you and the guy in the picture!
