What's up with the A.?

I haven't had one grab in 3 weeks on the American. The last fish I hooked 3 weeks ago was off after 2 or 3 head shakes and left me with a mangled hook. The hook wasn't straighten out, the back half of the size 12 hook was bend 45 degrees to one side and everything was stripped off. Has anyone been getting into them? Jeff C.
