First off, I have said it a few times, but I will say it again:
These boards kick but!
With that out of the way, I need to share a great experience I had last week. After my post in this section about going to Tahoe, I received an invitation to go fish a river up that way. I accepted, and BigBill and I headed out.
After a wild bumpy ride and a bit of a hike, we made it to the river. I have to say, I have never seen such a beautiful place. We fished our way up river, Bill hooking into the first 2, me nothing..... After a bit, we came upon a hole that had a wonderful rock overhang, a riffle above, and a nice area to allow a nice long drift.
I had tied on a couple of my poopah offshoots that I tied up earlier in the week and watched my indicator take off. After a wild fight, my first ever river rainbow, caught on my own tied fly, was landed. Two "firsts" with one fish...what a great day already....
After hiking and fishing some more, we headed back upstream. Bill stopped at a beautiful part of the river and wanted to throw in that area for a bit, and told me to keep heading up, so I went back to the hole I pulled my first one from. I could see Bill down river and heard him yelling. I looked and saw him holding a nice 20"+ fish. I was too far away to get up there in time to take a pic without stressing the fish, but man was it beautiful.
I was watching these great looking fish surface, so I ditched the nymphs and tied on an orange stimulator. After about 5 or 6 casts, Bill was heading up to me. Right about when he got to the hole, I watched a fish take my stimulator with a slurp and I set the hook - Fish on! Another wonderful fight and my second fish and third "first" of the day (first fish on topwater dry fly) was landed.
We hiked back up to the truck after a wonderful day. Thanks again Bill for helping me make a bunch of "firsts" happen. It was a birthday vacation I will not soon forget.
Pics will be below once I get them off the camera.
